Community awareness to understand the power of partnerships in crime prevention initiatives is the main focus of the Southern Division Community policing in Totoya, Lau over the next few days.
With the support of the Goneturaga na Roko Sau, Roko Josefa Canivilakeba and elders from the five villages on Totoya, the SD Community Policing team have been conducting awareness sessions with the intent of establishing Crime Prevention Committees.
In doing so, the people of Totoya will work with Police Officers based at the Moala Community Post in taking ownership of the safety and security of their communities.
By empowering communities to understand the positives of working together, we anticipate the quick sharing of information of suspected illegal activities.
The awareness sessions are also being conducted in schools to safeguard Fiji’s future generation.
The awareness conducted on the island coincides with the recent 50th Anniversary of Navesi Primary School where the Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration (ACP/A) Meli Sateki had attended on behalf of the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew who was invited to officiate the formalities of the celebrations.
