IDADAIT Launch


The national International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) was officially launched today by the Assistant Minister for Ministry of Education FIJI Hon. Iliesa Vanawalu at Nasinu Secondary School.

Witnessed by representatives of schools located in the Nasinu area, invited guests which included Police, the launch of IDADAIT week supported by Australia in Fiji #AusAid was an opportunity to reiterate the message of working together against the use and abuse of drugs, and to spread the message of respect and peace to fight against violence, promoting the safe use of social media, the fight against sexual abuse and promoting good mental health and wellness.

“These are common issues that our children face today and we all must support them to grow up in an environment where their health and safety are protected.The theme for this year is; Understand and share the facts of drugs and other social issues, save lives”.

The Assistant Minister said Police statistics had revealed 384 illicit drug cases between the months of January to April this year, of which 361 were for marijuana, 20 for methamphetamine and one report of cocaine.

It was also revealed that there were12 juveniles involved in drug related offences during the same period.

“This data reminds parents, faith based leaders, community leaders and civil societies to work collaboratively with the Government in protecting our children and youths”.

Throughout the week, Police officers will also be visiting schools as part of IDADAIT week.
