To Wau, and back.
Meet Inspector of Police (IP) Ranadi Kata, who recently returned from a one year Tour of Duty (TOD) at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Originally from Korotogo Village in Nadroga with maternal links to Naroro Village, IP Kata left Fiji on her TOD in March last year and was based mostly at the UNMISS Wau Field Office, about a 90 minute flight out of the Capital City of South Sudan Juba.
IP Kata received her formal education at Xavier College in Ba before marching into the Police Academy for Basic Recruit Training in 1995.
Talking about her recent TOD to South Sudan IP Kata said it was a challenging experience.
“We have to adjust to the food, the weather and the work environment over in Wau, and because we were in a field office away from Juba it was a challenge to adapt to the changes,” IP Kata said.
“I am happy that I was able to serve the people there throughout this past year, and it was an honor to represent the Fiji Police Force and of course the Government and the people of Fiji in South Sudan,” she added.
IP Kata was the Crime Officer for Lautoka Police Station prior to her TOD, and had served mostly in the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), at the two police stations of Sigatoka and Lautoka, during her 27years of service.
“I started off at the Uniform Branch after passing out from my recruit, and I then transferred over to the Tourist Police Unit,” she said.
“But I have mostly served in CID throughout my Policing career,” she added.
IP Kata was one of the 11 police officers who recently returned from UNMISS and had undergone a week long Re-Integration Program at the Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) training room.
