Camellia Detector Equipment Training


Eighteen Officers based at the Police Special Response Unit (PSRU] completed their three day Camellia Detector Equipment Training last Thursday.

The training enhances the officer's knowledge on handling the new Camellia Equipment which will allow them to detect dangerous chemicals during the course of their duties.

The course was facilitated by the UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Joint Interagency Task Force West - JIATF West through the support of U.S. Embassy Suva.

Commanding Officer (CO PSRU] Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP] Livai Driu reminded the participants that the end of their training marked the beginning of new prospects in their policing capabilities.

SSP Driu thanked the facilitators for the training and added that such knowledge will come in handy in their line of work.

Lately, PSRU Team have been involved in the uprooting of marijuana farms all over the country.

SSP Driu said the Narcotics trade is a lucrative industry, and those involved will take all necessary measures to protect, in their eyes, their “assets”.

“The consequences of the illicit drug trade on Fiji or any other small island state is devastating, and has the potential to drastically impact economies”.

"The knowledge gained over the last few days will equip you to know how to approach a situation safely, rather than running in unaware of the dangers that await you".

He urged the officers to put their knowledge to good use, as innocent lives depended on it.

The training was held at the Police Special Response Unit in Nasinu.
