ICRC REGIONAL DIRECTOR MEETS COMPOL

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Director for Asia Pacific Christine Cipolla has thanked the Fiji Police Force for supporting ICRC's collaborative efforts with law enforcement partners in Fiji.

Ms Cipolla who was accompanied by ICRC Head of Regional Delegation in the Pacific Mr Vincent Ochilet paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho earlier this week, where she acknowledged the Fiji Police’s support in coordinating efforts of strengthening capacities of law enforcement to promote and develop international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho thanked the senior executives for the provision of local, regional and international training opportunities for officers to be able to enhance their knowledge and understanding of international best practices.

In June this year a senior Fijian Police officer had the privilege of attending a Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Police Operations (SWIRPO) facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Jordan.

Brigadier General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force would also support and assist ICRC with efforts in engaging with Pacific Region law enforcement through the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police.

As current Chair of #PICP the Commissioner said the upcoming 49th PICP Annual Conference from the 24th to 26th of August at the Hilton Hotels & Resorts in Nadi will be an ideal platform to discuss ways of enhancing regional engagements with the ICRC.
