Breach of COVID-19 restrictions

Friday 2nd July, 2021

Fifteen people were arrested in the last 24hours for failing to comply with orders.

The Western and Southern Divisions recorded six arrests each while the Eastern Divisions recorded three reports.

Four Public Service vehicle drivers were arrested in Lautoka and one in Sigatoka for breaching the Ministry of Health’s 50 percent passenger capacity.

A 38 year old man was arrested for loitering drunk during curfew hours along the Tavakubu back Road in Lautoka.

Five out of the six arrests recorded in the Southern Division involved men who were found drunk in public during curfew hours.

In the Eastern Division, three youths were arrested at Davuilevu for not wearing a mask in public place and they will be charged for failure to comply with orders.

Police have started to arrest people who fail to wear mask in public place within containment areas and we urge people to adhere to these strict health restrictions and do the right thing even when Police or enforcement officers are not present.

The weekend usually marks a spike in arrests for social gathering and curfew breaches and we urge Fijians to do the right thing for the sake of your family and loved ones.

Common sense must prevail if we are to get ourselves out from the current situation because unfortunately as the number of cases rise and deaths recorded, there are still some who are taking the situation lightly.

Let's stop dwelling on the past and the what ifs, and work together because cooperation is key to the success of the whole of Government containment efforts.

The Fiji Police Force will continue to issue advisories and we hope that those who are against current containment efforts will adopt a change of mindset because lives are at stake.
