STATEMENT

The viral video that is now subject to criticism on why police officers need to be investigated, is being carried out due to the alleged breaches of our internal policies.

While we understand and acknowledge the criticism levelled against the decision made, we are also requesting members of the public to be mindful of the fact that police officers are members of a disciplined organisation and there are policies in place that govern our work.

Firstly the internal investigation will focus on any alleged breach of the FPF Social Media Policy, as officers are prohibited from posting themselves in uniform on any social media platform.

Secondly and most importantly, police officers should not be engaging themselves in activities that can cause anxiety or fear.

This is particularly so, if it is based on an issue based purely on assumptions and not verified by credible sources.

The FPF has a Code of Conduct and investigations will look into whether their actions were in breach of our internal policies.

I would also like to make this plea on behalf of all frontliners who are working hard in the whole Government approach in containing this virus.

Do not be easily swayed by information and posts shared on social media that have not been verified by medical professionals.

We need to be working together to contain the virus instead of working against each other.

The way forward to some form of normalcy is through cooperation.

There is a lot of information circulating on social media about the dangers and threats of the current vaccination drive, and I urge all Fijians to please follow the advisories and assurances issued by the Ministry of Health as it will benefit us all and help move us forward.
