STATEMENT

Seven Police officers including their immediate supervisor have been sent on leave pending an internal investigation in relation to the impersonation case at the Raiwaqa Police Station.

The incident has brought the laxity of a few middle managers to the forefront and we are working on further strengthening our internal processes and procedures to avoid a repeat of what transpired.

This incident i know has put a dent on public confidence and people's trust in our ability to effectively carry out our duties.

However I would like to assure all Fijians that disciplinary measures will be taken against those who failed to conduct their duties and allowed the unfortunate incident to happen under their watch.

As we continue to call for public support towards national efforts in containing COVID, key to gaining and maintaining support is a Police Force that can be trusted to effectively and efficiently conduct its duties.

I take responsibility for the incident and give my assurances that the matter will be dealt with through our internal disciplinary measures.
