Strengthening Security Cooperation

Discussions were held today looking at ways of strengthening security cooperation efforts between the Fiji Police Force and the British Government.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu met with British Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji Paul Welsh at the Fiji Police Headquarters this morning.

The Fiji Police Force has for decades benefitted from the support of the British Government whereby officers have been sent for training at leading British law enforcement training institutions, as well as capacity building programs.

The Acting Commissioner was assured of the British Government’s continuous support in strengthening police to police cooperation programs and ways to ensure continuity in the midst of travel restrictions brought about by COVID-19.

Reviving leadership training was also a key point of discussion with options now being made available in partnership with the New Zealand Government.

The Acting Commissioner said the Fiji Police is grateful to the British Government for their continuous support as past working relations have led to the establishment of key Units that still existed to date.
