Courtesy Call


The Fiji Police Force has extended its appreciation to the Republic of Korea for its support towards capacity building efforts for the institution.

The sentiments were relayed to the new Korean Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Mr Park Young-Kyu during a courtesy call to the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu this morning.

Discussions were held on consolidating police-police cooperation and people-people exchange programs strengthening specific areas of investigation, cybercrime and training with the Korean National Police Agency.

In welcoming and congratulating Ambassador Park on his new diplomatic posting, the Acting Commissioner said the Fiji Police was grateful to the Republic of Korea in supporting the Fiji Police Force.

“The Korean National Police as members of ASEANAPOL has assisted Fiji as observers knowing our desire to extend our reach to as many regions as possible considering the challenges of policing the world over with the threat of transnational crime".

"We appreciate all the effort and support shown towards the Fiji Police Force and we are optimistic that after the Memorandum of Understanding is finalized and signed, our relations will be further boosted with both Fijians and Korean Nationals benefiting through increased level of security cooperation".

Ambassador Park reaffirmed his Government's commitment to assisting the Fiji Police even as COVID-19 continued to pose challenges for most countries.

"We will be happy to look into how we can continue the capacity building programs even though the borders are closed with the option of looking at online trainings particularly in specialised areas of training with the Korean National Police".

"We are grateful to the Fiji Police for always ensuring the safety of our citizens here in Fiji and I look forward to working together with your team in strengthening areas of security cooperation".
