Twelve Police officers have attained Level 4 Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) accreditation boosting the Fiji Police Force’s ability to deliver specialized training on Disaster Responses locally and regionally.
This is after they had successfully completed a three-week training facilitated by The Pacific Community (SPC), Pacific Islands Emergency Management Alliance (PIEMA), Australia Pacific Training Coalition(APTC) and supported by the New Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade, AusAID and the Australian and New Zealand National Council for Fire.
Chief Operations Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan said having the additional twelve officers on hand to deliver specialized training will be a major boost for Fiji and the region.
“Fiji and the Pacific region has been experiencing more natural disasters than ever before and since Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston to TC Ana, we’ve had to step up our responses, a challenge that other Pacific law enforcement agencies are also facing”.
“Being AQF accredited means we can also assist our Pacific Island neighbours and with Fiji currently holding Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police it will be great for us to extend our training capabilities to the region as we are all facing the impacts of climate change, an emerging threat to law enforcement”.
The twelve officers will graduate soon after completing the three-week training which was based on specialized industry oriented needs complementing he needs of emergency and disaster management responders.
