Take heed of Advisories

The Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu is urging members of the public to take heed and comply with the revised national curfew hours announced by the National Disaster Management Office last night, as it is being enforced for the safety of all Fijians.  

Members of the public are reminded that the curfew is being enforced purely to restrict non-essential movement based on advice issued from the Nadi Weather Office due to the approaching Tropical Cyclone projected to make landfall later today.  

The reviewed curfew hours were deliberated on at length and approved by the Honourable Prime Minister to which all relevant stakeholders will be ensuring compliance.  

The Acting Commissioner stresses that if anyone has any medical emergency situation they can call the Police for assistance or move if they have the means to do so even if it means enlisting the help of someone else.  

Please do not let the curfew stop anyone from getting medical assistance if they urgently need to do so.  

This also applies for anyone who may need to move to a safer location if the weather situation deteriorates during the height of the Tropical Cyclone.

If you need help, call Police. If you have the means to move, please move to safety.

Acting Commissioner Tudravu stresses the curfew is for non-essential movement only.  

Those with a genuine reason to move will be permitted to do so and Police are on standby to assist.

There are many who are questioning the rationale of enforcing the lengthy curfew hours from this afternoon till Monday, however the hours will be reviewed if the weather situation improves.  

As Cyclones are unpredictable in nature, we request patience and understanding during these times.   

Essential service and businesses operators that need to move around during curfew hours will need to get clearance or a pass at their nearest Police Station or Command Centers.  

Employers must provide a signed letter indicating the purpose of movement, and present it to their nearest police station whereby it will be vetted before approval is given.   

The Fiji Police Force is again urging members of the public to call the National Command Center or Divisional Command Center for assistance.  

We need everyone’s cooperation and to understand that Police will only be strictly enforcing the curfew on those who are unnecessarily moving around without a valid reason.

This is not a time for sightseeing or swimming and by working together we can help save lives.
