Community Policing Symposium

The Fiji Police Force National Community Policing Symposium is currently underway at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour whereby Non-Government Organizations, Business communities, religious and charitable organizations, private social groups, members of Civil Society, and the Fiji Police Force came together to discuss and map the way forward for Community Policing which is such an important arm of policing operations.

The two-day event was officially opened by the Minister for Defense, National Security, and Policing Honorable Inia Seruiratu with the theme “Partnership and Empowerment: Community Policing in Action” While delivering his opening address, Honorable Seruiratu highlighted that the need to diversify and broaden the connections between Police and the community to ensure sustainability and continuality is important as well as the need to develop internal capabilities for good role models, Champions, and leaders of the Community Policing who will work with community partners.

“Ladies and Gentlemen – if you think about it carefully – your Community Policing Platform has already been created and is yours for the taking.

The patriotic spirit that we Fijians all have in working together for a common good is alive and well. It’s already out there but the key to latching onto that support however will be dependent on one institution – the Fiji Police Force.”

Seruiratu also stressed that the need for participants to re-focus, re-strategize, and re-align the concept of operations is important as far as community policing is concerned.
