DRIVERS BE RESPONSIBLE

22nd December

Drivers please be responsible this Christmas week. We are requesting motorists to take all necessary safety precautions and be mindful of their actions whilst on Fiji roads this week and into the weekend.

This morning, five people were rushed to the Navua Hosital after the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road near Vunaniu, Serua shortly after 11am.

The driver of the vehicle was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.

One of the passengers is reported to be in serious condition.

As investigations continue, drivers are again urged to be mindful of every decision they make whilst driving.

Every wrong decision made could prove costly where someone could be seriously injured or worse, a life could be lost.

Chief of Operations ACP Abdul Khan says with increased traffic movement anticipated this week and into the weekend, traffic officers will be deployed throughout the country.

"There will be parties and social gatherings where we anticipate the consumption of alcohol and our traffic team will be deployed with the booze bus to keep things in check".

"We also call on everyone to help,  and if you know someone has been drinking alcohol and is in no state to drive, say something or call us so we can intervene before it's too late".

ACP Khan is also calling on members of the public to plan their travel ahead of time to avoid rushing.

"We want everyone to have a safe Christmas but we also need everyone to assist and this applies to drivers and pedestrians as all road users have a role to play".
