Inspector Paris Rasoz of the Royal New Zealand Police paid a courtesy call to the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu this week.
Inspector Rasoz is the Program Manager for the NZ/ Fiji Police Force Strengthening Program.
During his visit, he also provides a brief overview of the Fiji Police Partnership Program (FPPP) totaling FJ$11 million and the targeted areas.
Inspector Rasoz in his brief highlighted that NZ Police are here to support the organization in whatever way is needed.
“We will look to Fiji Police to give us insights, directions, and your visions that we have the best to put in place.
I am not coming here to tell you what we are going to do but I am here to ask how we can best support the organization in this program.
“The focus of this program will include an investigative interview for example working together with DPP, a lot of interactions with victim-witnesses, suspects, and the vulnerable and very much involved with CID for the benefit of the organization and the country as a whole."
Under the FPPP are programs to be rolled out in the next 2-years commencing now targeting the four specific areas as agreed to with the NZ Police through consultations last year here in Fiji and Wellington totaling $4.6Million.
The four specific areas are
1. Development of Investigative Interviewing capability
2. Development of General Patrol Dog capability (K9)
3. Asset Recovery Support
4. Development of Leadership & Governance capability The initiative is part of exchanges between Fiji Police and the Royal New Zealand Police.
It is consistent with the broad Fiji Police Partnership/Strengthening Programme (FPPP) totaling NZ$11 Million jointly announced by the Hon Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Hon New Zealand Prime Minister in February 2020.
The establishment of the Fiji Policing Programme (FPP) forms is part of the wider Fiji Police Strengthening Programme and is a bilateral program between NZ Police and Fiji Police.
The Programme allocation of NZ$4.6 million proposes to deliver a two (2) year policing program addressing four (4) workstreams that directly contribute to the Fiji 5 year National Development Plan (2017 – 2021).
The Fiji Police will consider appointing Project Officers to work alongside NZ Police Advisors in the delivery of the work streams identified.
