Assistant Superintendent of Police Farasiko Matawalu will depart for a year of tour of duty under the United Nations Interim Security in Abyei, Sudan early next month.
ASP Matawalu presented his i-tatau to the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu this week at the Police Headquarters in Laucala.
Originally from Makolei, Solevu in Bua, ASP Matawalu presently holds the post of Manager Tactical Operation at the Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) and his selection makes him the second Fijian officer to be deployed for mission duties under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) was established through a United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 of June 27, 2011, whereby it authorized the deployment of a peacekeeping force to the disputed Abyei Area, which straddles Northern and Southern Sudan and has been claimed by both sides.
Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu in accepting the I Tatau wished him well in his duty and encouraged him to remember that in the face of difficulties lies opportunities.
"I don’t have any doubt that you can do well and members of the organization will expect good results from you and remember you are going for a purpose so focus on that and the possibility for sending across officers on a similar mission will depend on your performances so all the best."
ASP Matawalu is married with three daughters.
