Opening leaders workshop

The UK College of Policing delivered its first Emerging Leaders Workshop for officers serving in the Northern Division last week.

Closing the training for Station Officers, Sergeants and Corporals was the Director Training and Education Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Serupepeli Neiko who acknowledged UK in Fiji for supporting the Fiji Police Force in various leadership training capacities.

SSP Neiko said, “Having been fortunate to have undergone the four-week International Leadership Programme in London, I for one can attest to the invaluable takeaways that have shaped my own leadership journey. One thing is for certain, leadership is far from a one size fits all model. Leadership is expected to be fluid in that you adopt best practices according to the situation that presents itself.”

SSP Neiko while addressing the middle managers in the Northern Division used the opportunity to reassert Fiji Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu’s focus on getting back to the basics of policing.

“As you are all aware – the Commissioner of Police intent is to get the basics right and this is where you come in as frontline supervisors and managers. What happens under your watch is a reflection of you, and you must never forget the burden you carry on your shoulders as you enjoy the perks that come with your ranks.”

“I sincerely hope that you have gained a better understanding of your own leadership and management skills, and have developed necessary analytical skills to quickly assess and adopt best practices for maximum outputs. Leadership as you would have learned is more about others than it is about yourself. As leaders, our greatest assets are our people – and how you treat them is a reflection of you".

The training by the College of Policing has been delivered at the Senior Executive level, supervisors and frontline managers.
