Australian Federal Police (AFP) today handed over operational equipment to the Fiji Police Force

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) today handed over operational equipment to the Fiji Police Force, demonstrating their continued commitment to working together with the FPF Uplift program.

The handing over was facilitated by the AFP’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Pacific Nigel Ryan to Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, and witnessed by the Australian Assistant Minister for Pacific Islands Affairs, Senator the Honourable Nita Green, Australian High Commissioner to Fiji H.E. Peter Roberts OAM and the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Policing Mr. Berenado Daveta at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova today (Wednesday 16th July 2025).

ACP Ryan said, “I recognise the Australian Federal Police and Fiji Police Force longstanding partnership to tackle transnational crime, through enhanced information sharing and build policing capability in our region. This was further strengthened by the new Solesolevaki Partnership and Police Cooperation MOU signed by our Commissioners earlier this year, underscoring the depth of our partnership and AFP’s support for all facets of the FPF Uplift.”

ACP Ryan also acknowledged Fiji’s lead role in the Pacific.

“The AFP Commissioner was honoured to host the Fijian Prime Minister and Minister for Policing at the Pacific Policing Initiative Pinkenba Hub on 4 July. This was an opportunity to recognise Fiji’s leading role in the design and implementation of the Pacific Policing Initiative, including Fiji Commissioner’s membership on the Design Steering Group.”

Fiji Police officers’ participation in the Pacific Police Support Group (PPSG) deployment to support Palau deliver the Pacific Mini Games was also acknowledged, building on similar successful deployments to Samoa and Vanuatu in 2024.

Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu conveyed the Fiji Police Force’s appreciation for the capability support, stressing that a shared challenge for Pacific Police was the lack of resources.

“I shared recently during the Pacific Transnational Forum that Pacific police have the passion, they have the drive to serve, however one of the challenges has always been resources. Today’s handing over is a major boost for our policing efforts aligned to the Uplift program as we strive to restore public trust and confidence through efficient service delivery.”

“The pace in which things went from the discussion stages to today’s handing over is truly appreciated and I acknowledge with sincere gratitude your unwavering support ACP Ryan and your AFP team here in Fiji led by Detective Superintendent Grant.”

Handed over today were vehicles, operational items to increase Transnational Crime Unit capabilities, operational equipment to assist during the deployment of officers and traffic equipment.
