meet discusses fppp progress

The Fiji Police Partnership Programme (FPPP) Management Committee meeting was held yesterday where Fiji Police Force’s Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew extended the organisation’s appreciation to the New Zealand advisors who have added immense value to current policing efforts.

In February 2020, the New Zealand Prime Minister announced an $11 million assistance package aimed at enhancing the capability of the Fiji Police Force and expanding security partnership between Fiji and New Zealand in policing cooperation. Since then, senior New Zealand Police advisors have been working with the Fiji Police across the four outputs of.

1. Development of Investigative Interviewing capability

2. Development of General Patrol Dog capability (K9)

3. Asset Recovery Support

4. Development of Leadership & Governance capability. Under the partnership, work is also underway for the expansion of the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Savusavu.

The Acting Commissioner extended the institutions’ appreciation for the work done since the last reporting period.

“Crime is all our business and partnerships are the way to go in the sharing of ideas, and through such partnerships as ours, we know that we cannot completely stop crime, but can minimize it, and the impacts on our people.

” Sentiments echoed by the New Zealand Police International Services Group (ISG) senior executive Superintendent Chris Page who thanked the Acting Commissioner and Fiji Police Force for honouring the partnership with genuine respect.

“I acknowledge the support of those in the room towards the pacific partnership team, working in Fiji, for your incredible support that has allowed us to have business a relationship centred on friendship and accountability with both institutions.”

“We share the same to make our world better, and it is a great privilege to share the work with you as we cannot do this in isolation, because whatever happens here impacts New Zealand and the region.”

Beyond the four thematic areas, the senior advisors have worked closely with the Police training cadre in revamping qualifying courses, the FPF Women’s Advisory Network putting together its first Awards ceremony, self-defense training and discussions on an Officers safety programme, amongst other forms of assistance.
