The man alleged to have sexually assaulted his niece in Labasa was charged with one count of sexual assault and produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court on Friday.
On the 6th of this month, the accused who was staying with the victim’s family had entered the victim’s room she was sharing with her sister whilst they were sleeping and committed the alleged offence.
She then alerted her parents about the incident.
The accused has been bailed with the sum of $500 with strict bail conditions and the case adjourned to the 30th of July 2024 for plea.
An interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DCVRO) has been placed against the accused.
TAVUA MURDER
A 24-year old man and a 16 year-old youth were produced at the Tavua Magistrates Court on Friday charged with the alleged murder of a 33-year-old taxi driver.
The two were charged with murder, and have been remanded.
The 24-year-old has been remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre while the 16-year-old was brought down to the Juvenile Centre in Suva.
The case has been adjourned to the 24th of June and will be called again at the Lautoka High Court.
The two are alleged to have on the 1st of June, 2024, at Matalevu, Tavua, aided and abetted in the assault of the victim, causing his death.
The 33-year-old taxi driver’s vehicle was found abandoned in Dokanaisuva.
