PPTAG FPF TRAINING OVERVIEW

Members of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Pacific Police Training Advisory Group (PPTAG) supported by the Australian Federal Police on day two of their biannual meeting currently being held in Suva, visited the Fiji Police Academy where they were briefed on the FPF's training capabilities and witnessed Batch 67 of the Basic Recruits Course rehearse for their Pass out parade scheduled for the 14th of June 2024. The PPTAG is an advisory body to the PICP, operating under the theme ‘By the Pacific, For the Pacific’ , promoting the active engagement of Pacific Police in the design, development and delivery of Police training.

The PPTAG facilitates the development of common approaches and standards in training, whilst recognising that each organisation has its own needs.

PPTAG meets biannually to discuss progress and developments in training, as well as to highlight the outstanding training needs and challenges that exist across the region.

Fiji Police's Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew is the PPTAG Chair and having the meeting held in Suva was a great opportunity to showcase the FPF's training capabilities available to fellow PICP member countries.

These have included placements in BRC trainings for regional law enforcement, joint trainings conducted by regional and international law enforcement agencies hosted by Fiji.

Their tour ended at the Fiji Police Band bure where they were accorded a traditional welcome of ceremony.
