NZ Fiji police partnership


Progress on the New Zealand Government supported Fiji Police Partnership Programme (FPPP) was briefed to the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew last week, as the partnership under the ????????????????Duavata Agreement continues to grow in strength.

Under the FPPP, senior New Zealand Police Liaison officers are working with the Fiji Police to add value to existing work conducted under the four thematic areas of Training, Leadership, Dog Patrol and Investigation.

The joint partnership has achieved significant milestones through training and capacity building. A key achievement over the past year have been major drug detections and arrests made by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, a partnership between the FPF, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service New Zealand Police and New Zealand Customs Capacity building programmes have included the training of K9 handlers at the New Zealand Police Dog Training centre in Trentham and the provision of K9s.

Progress was also provided on the work on developing investigative capabilities and the use, and expansion of Video Recorded Interview (VRI) rooms.

The NZ Police team comprised of Inspector of Police (IP) Dave Rose, Manager for International Service Group (ISG), Senior Advisor (S.A) Mark Pakes, Senior Advisor Michele Gillespie and New Zealand High Commission, Suva, Fiji Second Secretary (Political) Mr Jonathan Martin.

The Acting Commissioner commended the progress made adding, "Partnerships are the way to go and we need to work together. One day when our time of service is over, the result of our partnership will continue to grow and produce satisfactory results."
