Mou signing with Pacific Centre for peacebuilding

A Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday between the Fiji Police Force and the Pacific Centre for, will see the two organisations engage in a multi-tiered program of “Repairing and Restoring Justice” caused by crime through the principles of Restorative Justice.

The signing was officiated by the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew and PCP Executive Director Ms Florence Swamy.

The FPF and PCP have worked closely since 2010, engaging in the conduct of workshops and shared learnings. Executive Director Ms Swamy said the PCP hopes to share learning experiences to help break the vicious cycle of crime, and assist police in building trust through interventions, targeting society as a whole.

Ms Swamy said working within the crime space is delicate work as it is about building trust and uncovering the many layers that contribute to crime and addressing its root causes.

The Acting Commissioner thanked the PCP for its continued support, adding law enforcement was dependent on partnerships.

He added partnerships are critical to the successful implementation of proactive crime prevention initiatives.
