United Nations Job Specific Training

A two-week United Nations Job Specific Training got underway at the Eastern Division Headquarters Training room at the Nakasi Police Station this morning.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew while opening the training said since Fiji became the first nation to convene the the UN Police Peacekeeping Job Specific Training for a single nation in February, the latest training facilitated entirely by Fiji Police officers is a step in the right direction towards the FPF's campaign in being the hub of UN Police peacekeeping training in the Pacific.

The Acting Commissioner said, “Peacekeeping mandates are constantly evolving and what was relevant, 5 to 10-years ago, is no longer applicable today.

For those of you who have had prior mission experience, you will see that it’s different this time round, as your deployment will be based on the needs on the ground, hence this Job Specific Training”.

The workshop will give the delivery of the full Job Specific Topics of Mentoring, Monitoring & Advising (MMA), Community Oriented Policing (COP), and Capacity Building & Development (CBD) to Fijian officers to develop their skills, attitudes, and knowledge to competently perform peacekeeping duties whilst representing the Fiji Police in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions.

The officers were selected from the list of candidates who passed the Fiji SAAT in 2022 and have undergone the UN Pre-deployment training course.

The Acting Commissioner went on to say, “Your deployment will be based on specific roles and responsibilities in mind.

The demands for peacekeeping as you know has evolved and the usual tasking of monitoring and reporting to one of problem-solvers and mentors".

"It is indeed a noble calling, as you will put your policing experience into good use in restoring some form of normalcy in war ravaged countries”.
