ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE

A 54-year-old man is believed to be the country’s latest road fatality victim.

Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana said the accident occurred at the junction of Levuka jroad in Savusavu after 10pm last night.

SSP Divuana said the victim was allegedly bumped by a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man.

SSP Divuana said the driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle resulting in the unfortunate accident that allegedly claimed the life of the victim from Nabalebale in Savusavu.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. In another accident involving a pedestrian, SSP Divuana said two students aged 18 and 19 years were bumped by a truck driven by a 30-year-old man.

It is alleged that the suspect tried to stop his truck from colliding with another vehicle at the Laqere traffic lights, causing his vehicle to veer onto the footpath and bumped the two victims.

Both victims were rushed to the Makoi Health Centre and later transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where they remain admitted in stable condition.

The Director Traffic is calling on drivers to be alert at all times and drive within the speed limit.

SSP Divuana said by driving within the speed limit, drivers will have ample time to make decisions that could prevent an accident or the loss of life.

The road death toll currently stands at 16 compared to 22 for the same period last year.
