Drowning cases a concern

The body of the 42-year-old man who was swept away by strong currents while swimming after a drifting fiber-glass boat in Navutu waters in Lautoka on Thursday, has been recovered.

The search team found the victim’s body about 300meters from the dock. A post mortem examination will be conducted as investigations continue.

In another alleged drowning case in the Western Division, a 28-year-old man was swept away by strong currents whilst swimming in Sonaisali in Nadi.

The victim was allegedly swimming with two others when he was swept away towards open seas. Search efforts conducted yesterday proved futile and will continue today.

In another alleged drowning case, a 2-year-old boy was found floating in a creek at Naqaidamu Village in Koro yesterday morning.

The victim was rushed to the Koro Health Centre where attempts to revive him proved futile.

Parents and guardians are again being reminded of the importance of supervision.

The movement of young children must be monitored at all times, particularly when living in an area surrounded by bodies of water.
