The Fiji Police Partnership Programme (FPPP) team from New Zealand met with the Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew yesterday at the Fiji Police Headquarters.
This was to review work conducted in the areas of Investigative Interviewing, Police Academy support, K9 development program, CID Support and Leadership.
The head of the FPPP, NZ Police Advisor Inspector Mark Pakes provided a brief on the progress and performance of the Program last year under the NZ Government assistance.
IP Pakes outlined a number of achievements made which included the remarkable success and growth of the Fiji Police Dog team, the design and development of Standard Operating procedures and working with staff at the Police Academy on the introduction and embedding of Scenario based training.
IP Pakes said the NZ Police is ready to support its Fijian counterparts in their journey to Restoring Blue.
The Acting Commissioner of Police acknowledged the support by the NZ Government towards the Fiji Police Force.
“The Fiji Police Force is forever grateful for the various forms of assistance rendered to us in the past The opening of the New Dog Unit facility, the VRI project which is still ongoing and the change in the CQC course and also other training programs you have assisted us on,” said Mr Chew.
He reminded the NZ team that frontline officers on the ground appreciated the new amended training program because it was more on practical training rather than classroom learning.
“In these modern times we have to streamline how we do things. We should be careful especially on the front line because members of the public have smart phones.”
The Acting Commissioner reminded the team that Partnership was the way forward for both Police Organizations and he looks forward to another year of collaboration.
