The first United Nations Pre-Deployment Training for this year was officiated this morning by the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.
The workshop is made up of 41 participants who had passed their Fiji SAAT 2022.
“Officers, being selected for a mission is an honor. Many will go through their policing careers not having any opportunity to serve in a mission, so for those of you who are getting another opportunity, consider yourselves blessed,” said Mr Chew.
The Acting Commissioner said that major global developments have influenced the training, as they had to adapt to new trends and challenges.
He reminded participants that they must be open to learning and adapt to whatever is thrown at them.
“Your actions are not only reflective of your individual selves, but of your families, Fiji Police Force and Fiji. The Fiji Police Force has a long history of peacekeeping deployment dating back to the 11th of April, 1989, a history that we are immensely proud of. Fijian Police officers have excelled and held senior ranks within UN missions.”
The Acting Commissioner also congratulated the four Police Officers who are now certified United Nations trainers and they received their training certificate today.
“I wish you well in your training, learn as much as you can as we are fortunate to have our very own certified U.N trainers with us, a luxury that most Pacific Islands don’t have, and one that we are more than willing to share with our Pacific Law Enforcement brothers and sisters in the Pacific.”
The course which begins today for four weeks will conclude on 2nd February, 2024.
