Fiji Pine Community assistance in Keyasi

As part of Police Efforts in eradicating drugs in Navosa, Nasaucoko Village in Keyasi will now plant and nurse Pine Trees.

This announcement came yesterday as Fiji Pine handed over their goodwill payment for part of their land to which a Pine Station will be based.

Fiji Pine Deputy Chairman Nabau Saukuru told the villagers that their vision for income generating scheme will benefit them and their future generations.

Mr Saukuru yesterday said the Pine Project in the Nasaucoko Lands will have an economic impact in the area of Keyasi and it will make lives easier not only for them but also for their neighboring Villages and settlements.

Yesterday two landowning Units received their goodwill payments for their land which will be used to build a Pine Station.

This came about as part of Fiji Police initiative in transforming Navosa through Rugby and Boxing in order to eradicate the cultivations of drugs and implement income generating projects.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Sakeo Ganivatu said the vision was launched in August last year at the Nabou Pine Station in Sigatoka.

“This initiative was brought up by few officers serving at Navosa Police Station who were from Nasaucoko Village. The idea of saving their future generation from drugs was the motive behind this initiative so we keep in close contact and held few meetings with other stakeholders,” said ACP Ganivatu.

He said with after afew meetings, Fiji Pine had sponsored their Rugby Team and the Corona Boxing Club from Navosa was been sponsored by British Army personals who are from the area.

“These are a few initiatives that has occurred after we launched this vision last year and we are here today to celebrate the first payments for their land which will now have a Pine Station. The land being utilized here were the very ones that use to cultivate drugs.”

ACP Ganivatu said this is part of Police Proactive measures in eradicating drugs from Navosa.

“Instead of arresting people for cultivating drugs, we are now introducing other means of generating income which won’t put their lives and their communities at risk. We are hoping that other areas in Navosa will consider on what’s been done here today.”

ACP Ganivatu said everyone’s pitching in to eradicate drugs cultivation in Navosa which includes the local stakeholders and Fijians working overseas.
