Monitor Children Movement

Fiji Police Force is calling on everyone to celebrate their New Year with a sense of safety and responsibility.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu said the New Year celebration is expected to continue throughout this week and is calling on all parents to monitor their children’s celebration.

This was after a 7 year old child of Cunningham who suddenly ran across the road in the midst of celebrating with other children and was hit by a passing minivan.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon at around 04.00pm.

“Our children will be the ones celebrating the New Year this week by splashing water amongst each other, banging of drums and swimming. Despite these celebration, it needs adult supervision to see that it doesn’t get out of hand and most importantly for their own safety,” said ACP Driu.

There have been mishaps in the past years as a result of New Year’s celebration and a few people have been taken to task.

ACP Driu said as much as they want people to celebrate the New Year, safety should be the first priority.

The child was taken to CWM Hospital where she is currently been admitted.

Investigation in to the incident is underway.
