Officers depart for Training


Superintendent of Police (SP) Sakiusa Jitoko and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupeni Taoka have been provided placements at two leading United States law enforcement training institutions.

SP Jitoko who currently holds the post of Deputy Director Forensics Science Services us attending an 11-week training at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, while SP Taoka is in Hawaii attending a 6-week training at the prestigious Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) based in, Hawaii.

SP Jitoko was enlisted into the organization on the 2nd of February 2004, and has primarily served in the Crime Scene Investigations and Forensic Services Division.

A graduate of the Premier Forensic Institute in India where he attained a Graduate Diploma in Forensic Science, SP Jitoko is a crime and fire scene forensic expert and delivers lectures and workshops on the subject of Fingerprints and Crime Scene Examination at the Fiji Police Academy. Since the early 1990s, the Fiji Police Force has been provided study opportunities at the prestigious FBI National Academy.

Recent graduates include the current Director Narcotics Bureau SSP Seru Neiko and Director Criminal Investigations Department SSP Loraini Seru.

SP Taoka who is the Deputy Director Organised Crime at the Criminal Investigations Department has been selected to attend the strategic studies at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS).

He joined the Fiji Police on the 21st of May 1990, and has spent majority of his service in the crime branch, and as the Deputy Director Crime, oversees the conduct of investigations into major crimes, cyber-crime, human trafficking, sexual offences, and cases of national interests.

SP Taoka also provides support to districts and divisions in the investigations of serious cases in nature.

Recent graduates from the APCSS are Deputy Divisional Police Commander West (DDPC/W) Superintendent of Police Aisake Kafoa and Divisional Manager Community Policing South (DMCP/South) SP Ruci Nasemira.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew met the two officers prior to their departure where he wished them well stressing the need to ensure the return of investment.

“Utilize training opportunities such as this to grow within the institution. Opportunities come only once and selecting a particular individual amongst the many thousands can be difficult, but we place our trust in those we select to come back and put into practice lessons learnt and contribute to the organization”.
