The Fiji Police Force held its first quarter Church parade at the Police Mobile Force Unit in 8 miles Nasinu this morning.
The service also marked the opportunity for the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew to convey his appreciation to officers men and women, and their families for supporting the work of policing during his tenure.
“Over the last seven months, looking back, we have achieved a lot. Looking forward there will be a lot of challenges ahead of us that we can overcome as a team”.
The Acting Commissioner went on to say, “Our theme for the Annual Corporate Plan 2023-2024 is Optimum Service Delivery, and in order to achieve this, we need to get the basics right.
I cannot do it alone, we need to work together as a team”. In attendance were senior members of the Command Group, Directors, Divisional Police Commanders and their Deputies, officers from the five policing divisions as well as the new recruits.
The Acting Commissioner whilst talking on the issue of unity, also emphasized the importance of leadership.
“As you rise in rank, it also requires a demarcation of your attitude. Know yourself as a leader, in whatever rank or position you hold in this organization. Maintain the independence of the rank that you hold. If you’re still maintaining the same old attitude and mindset, you’ll be taken advantage of”.
With a few cases of ill-discipline being highlighted in the media lately, the Acting Commissioner called on the officers to reflect on their purpose as a member of the policing profession.
“There are still a few challenges we are facing. Ask yourself, what is your purpose and your contribution to optimizing service delivery. Policing is a lifelong journey, change your attitude and let the change be seen within and externally in our work”.
