Aside from police's core roles of the maintenance of law and order and the protection of life and property for all Fijians and visitors, Police officers also have to be able to respond to emergencies within.

This was the intent of a Fire Warden Training Course facilitated by the National Fire Authority at the Western Division Headquarters this past week.

Officers appointed as fire wardens were taught on Occupational Health and Safety requirements, to conduct fire risk assessments in workplaces, understand the classes of fire, understand the chemistry of fire, differentiate types of extinguishers, first aid fire equipment and the practical use of fire extinguishers.

We thank NFA for conducting the training, and with police officers trained as fire wardens, its an added skill that could also come in handy when responding to small fire emergencies within their communities.
