Another briefing on Operation Lesu ki Vale was provided to the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection - Fiji Assistant Minister Honourable Sashi Kiran regarding joint efforts by Police, Government, stakeholders and civil society groups in addressing rising concerns about street dwellers and unemployed youths.
Strategies and intervention measures adopted by the joint Operation Lesu Ki Vale Taskforce has seen the profiling of 37 street dwellers, six being juveniles in the Nadi, Namaka and Lautoka area.
Profiling unemployed youths with the support of the Higher Education Commission - Fiji has seen 113 of the 155 youths profiled, securing educational opportunities in the field of hospitality, automotive engineering and building and construction.
While there remains challenges with acceptance from families, stakeholders are committed to addressing the issues faced by street dwellers and youths, with the belief that everyone has a home and a loving family.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says the joint efforts will greatly assist policing efforts in safeguarding youths from falling on the wrong side of the law.
