Duavata vanua based partnerships


In a bid to curb the cultivation of marijuana on the island of Koro, the Divisional Police Commander Eastern ( DPC/E) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)Josua Vodo has requested the assistance of the vanua and community leaders to work with police in tackling the illicit drug trade.

The Divisional Police Commander East whilst on his official visit of officers based on the island also visited Tuatua, Naqaidamu and Nasau Villages where he spoke about the need to strengthen community policing partnerships for the sake of preventing the escalation of drug related activities on the island.

SSP Vodo said officers have been deployed to the island following information received on the alleged cultivation of marijuana.

"Once found, plants will be uprooted and will be brought before the village elders so that you are aware of what's happening on your land," said SSP Vodo.

He reminded the villagers that drugs is a major problem and Police efforts alone, won't be enough.

"We need your assistance in our battle against drugs. If you choose to be silent, think of the effects that will have on your children and the problems they will face."

The visitation is part of the Eastern Division Operation "Siro Sobu" with the intent of bringing services closer and understanding the needs and challenges of communities withint the Eastern Division's area of operation.
