The secondment of two Fijian Police officers to the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) came to end, with the officers commended on their contribution towards efforts of strengthening regional capability development initiatives.
The two are Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jonati Daucakacaka and Inspector Jekope Latu.
Their term of secondment was from the 4th of July 2022 to the 4th of April 2023, where they focused on priority areas of intelligence, investigation and officer wellbeing and safety.
The PCLEC is a regional coordination mechanism that supports Pacific-led, fit-for-purpose, capability development initiatives for Pacific police organisations.
Established in 2020, the PCLEC team coordinates Pacific capability and external support to deliver on the strategic priorities set by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) with the core principle of “By the Pacific for the Pacific”.
During their secondment period they promoted awareness of PCLECs purpose, objectives and operations across Pacific police organisations and PICP law enforcement partners.
They also supported the PCLEC National Coordinators network and the strategy performance and reference group to ensure it fulfilled its functions in support of PCLEC operation, and actively worked in identifying Pacific capabilities and ensuring that the Pacific capability database was updated.
The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew thanked the two police officers for representing the organization with integrity adding he had received positive feedback from the senior hierarchy of the PICP and Australian Federal Police.
Acting Commissioner Chew also wished Inspector Prashant Prasad well in taking over from the two officers and stressed upon the need to continue the momentum of work.
He said the Fiji Police Force takes its commitment towards the strengthening of regional capacity building seriously and will continue to support regional efforts through similar secondment programs if provided with more opportunities.
