Eastern Weekend Advisories

Ahead of the Easter long weekend, the Fiji Police Force is urging members of the public to ensure their safety and security is always prioritized.

Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Livai Driu said the Police are anticipating increased movement this weekend where opportunists will try to take advantage of the situation by committing crimes.

ACP Driu is encouraging Fijians to liaise with their nearest Community Police Post, Station and crime prevention committees so we can work together in keeping our communities safe this long weekend.

The Chief Operations Officer said operations have factored that a lot of social, sporting and leisure activities are planned this long weekend, and is reminding the public to plan ahead to avoid rushing, resulting in accidents.

Some safety and security reminders to keep in mind:

1) Safely secure valuable items and electronic gadgets inside your home.

2) Double check that all doors and windows are locked when leaving home.

3) Double check that all fire hazards and unused electrical appliances are switched off.

4) Inform your neighbour that you'll be away, exchange contact information and ask them to call you if they see any suspicious movement.

5) Call into your nearest Community Police Post or Station and inform the officers that your house will be vacant.

ACP Driu said officers will be pushed forward to assist with Divisional operations this Easter long weekend.
