Noting the future of digital forensics in policing, the Australian Federal Police is facilitating a four day regional training at the Fiji Police’s Digital Forensic Laboratory in Suva.
The training attended by Police officers from Fiji, RSIPF and the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services is aimed at enhancing the digital forensic capabilities of regional crime investigating officers.
Opening the training was the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew who said, “Increased digitalization means an abundance of vulnerable digital information that could be exploited by cyber criminals.
On a positive note, it also means an abundance of valuable digital data to be used by law enforcement, as every crime will somewhat have a technology aspect associated to it”. While thanking the AFP for its continued support towards the regional training,
Acting Commissioner Chew also reiterated the importance of regional collaboration. “It is imperative to adopt strategies for collaboration so we can efficiently analyze data, solve crimes through teamwork, and share the benefits of digital intelligence.
Use this opportunity to build a network of regional specialized digital forensic officers”.
AFP Senior Liaison Officer (Pacific) Superintendent Adrian Morton said, “This is not a beginning and not the end, but a stepping stone in our partnership forward.
The AFP has provided similar technologies to Samoa and the Solomon Islands and as friends we will continue to build on things moving forward long into the future”.
