International Women’s Day (IWD)

Ahead of the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration on Wednesday the 8th of March this week, we will feature a number of serving women officers and civilians and their thoughts on this year’s IWD theme #EmbraceEquity

Today we feature the Officer in Charge Fiji Police Band (OC Band) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bausema Lilinatabua.

In 2020 she became a recipient of the Fiji’s 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal in recognition of her hard work and contribution towards Nation Building.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s IWD celebrations, Embracing Equity, ASP Llilinatabua said all women and girls can achieve anything their male counterparts achieve and more.

“I would like to remind all women police officers out there that it’s all in the mind, if they can believe in themselves and whatever they set their mind towards they can achieve it,” ASP Lilinatabua.

“I encourage all women police officers out there to believe in themselves, if they have the passion for whatever they are doing, they will go far, and can achieve whatever they set their minds to,” she added.

ASP Lilinatabua hails from Tuatua Village in Koro and joined the Fiji Police Force as a Special Constable in 2001, andwas absorbed into the Regular Force in 2003 and has served for 20 years in the Fiji Police Band.

“When I was a Regular Constable I was sent to CPS (Central Police Station) to learn the police drill and routine police work and I was only there for about a year, before I was sent back to the police band,” she said.

In 2019 ASP Lilinatabua, become the first ever female officer to lead the Fiji Police Band in the long standing tradition between the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force, Change of Guard ceremony at the State House.
