Outboard Motor Maintenance Course


Ten Republic Of Fiji Navy and eight Police officers today graduated from a two week outboard Motor Maintenance Course facilitated by the U.S.

Coast Guard and the U.S. Embassy Suva The course focused mainly on the basic maintenance of outboard motors where course participants learned both the theory and maintenance side of outboard motors.

US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Tony Greubel said the workshop was the latest milestone in the US and Fijian efforts towards a safer and prosperous Blue Pacific Region. He stressed that since World War 2, the US have remain a committed partner to the region ensuring a strong and consistent defense process to support peace, security and stability.

"Through our Bilateral Agreement with US Coast Guard, Nevada National States Guard partnership program and other agencies we are extremely proud of our partnership and security cooperation with the Republic of Fiji.

" He adds that the course was one of the first in the region to be conducted as part of a larger and collaborative effort between the US Coast Guard and the Australia Pacific Maritime Security program as they work together to support their Pacific neighbor’s maritime goals.

Working cooperatively, the two countries aim to bring more training opportunities on small boats, navigation seamanship, maritime patrol planning and law enforcements boarding operations.

Mr Greubel thanked the Fiji Navy and the Fiji Police Force participants for showing their facilitators the side of Fiji they didn’t know.

During the two weeks course, participants taught their instructors on how to play touch rugby and they took them out for a day trip to Delailasikau Village in Naitasiri.

"Those who were your instructors, they are now your colleges, I hope that even across the mass Blue pacific, you maintain this new professional connections.
