The Chief Planning, Research and Doctrines Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aporosa Lutunauga aims to utilize his tenure as the Chairman of the FNRL Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) to empower youths.
ACP Lutunauga's appointment was announced yesterday.
ACP Lutunauga’s association with the sport of rugby league began when he was appointed to take over the management of the Police Sharks team in 2011, and has seen the sport grow within, to also now include a Police women’s league team.
ACP Lutunauga said he hopes to use the platform to empower youths as many have dreams and aspirations to play at national level and in securing international club contracts.
“I thank the Board for having faith in my ability to Chair the FNRL, and with the assistance of fellow board members I hope to modernize operations of the organization so we are up to par with other Leagues”.
“My intent is to empower youths in the 18-25-year age bracket, as I have witnessed how committed and passionate they are when it comes to the sport.
Under the Duavata Community Policing through sports initiative, I hope to bring about a positive change for the youths and provide structure to the way they operate”.
ACP Lutunauga said he has always been in awe of how communities come together to support and prepare their local clubs for competition.
“They have the passion and drive, and whether it be through the support of the Board or through community policing efforts where we empower them with knowledge to ensure they don't fall on the wrong side of the law, I hope to be able to provide the necessary support for the growth of the sport”.
The newly appointed Chairman has set his eyes on the road to the 2025 Rugby League World Cup in France and intends to work with stakeholders to deliver a 5-year strategic Plan for the sport and modernize the FNRL through reforms and restructuring to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and relevancy.
