Discussions were held yesterday on the potential expansion of the New Zealand Police supported Fiji Detector Dog Programme to selected centers in Fiji apart from the two Fiji Detector Dog Units in Nadi and Suva.
The meeting was attended by the Fiji Police’s Director International Relations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaiasi Ravula and officers based with the FPF International Relations Cell and New Zealand Police K9 Manager Inspector Todd Southhall and the Senior Project Officer for the Pacific Detector Dog Programme Ms Fiona McPhail.
The initiative falls under the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and New Zealand High Commission, Suva, Fiji funded Fiji Police Partnership Programme for the Development of General Patrol Dog capability.
IP Southall has been instrumental in the training of FPF K9 handlers and the partnership between the FPF and NZ Police K9 Units dates back to the 1970s.
