Prioritize Children Safety

The Fiji Police Force is again reiterating the need for parents and guardians to prioritize the supervision of their children, as accidents that could result in the loss of life can occur in a matter of seconds.

Chief Operations Officer (COO) Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Livai Driu is reissuing the warning following the death of a 2-year-old child who was allegedly bumped by a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old woman near the Natokowaqa Housing in Lautoka after 6pm yesterday.

The child is alleged to have crossed the road suddenly resulting in the accident.

In another case, a child is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital after having suffered 13% burns.

The victim was allegedly left unattended in her home in Votua Village, Ba last week when she sustained burs after a jug of hot water fell on her.

A/ACP Driu says the accidents and deaths are unfortunate and is calling on parents and guardians to prioritize the safety of their young children at all times.

Meanwhile the report of the 8-year old child who was swept away after falling in a drain in Tacirua last week has been classified as a drowning case as investigations continue.

The post mortem of the 1-year-old child who is believed to have drowned in a bucket of water in Nalawa, Ra, will be conducted soon, as investigations continue.

The element of negligence will be investigated in all cases involving children.
