Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Tausia Nasario has successfully completed the four day 2nd ASIA-PACIFIC POLICE COLLOQUIUM at Manila Philippines from November 28 to December 1, 2022.
The COLLOQUIUM was organized and co-hosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The aim of the event was to generate discussions among specialists at policy level on the risks associated with the early stages of detention.
This included the sharing of policies, identifying existing challenges, mapping practical mitigating strategies and lessons learnt from the Asia-Pacific region.
The event also dwelled on 'Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations and Information Gathering.
The event was attended by senior officers from Fiji, Timor Leste, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia, Maldives, Cambodia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Indonesia, Australia and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Island.
Fiji's "First Hour Procedure" in engaging legal counsel for Arrested persons, within the first hour of being arrested, was part of the discussions appreciated by the participating delegates.
