The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has conveyed the Fiji Police’s appreciation to the outgoing People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to Fiji H.E. Qian Bo for his support towards the enhancement of police to police cooperation between Fiji and China.
The outgoing Ambassador Bo paid a farewell courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police where he met with senior members of the organization.
Brigadier General Qiliho said during the Ambassador’s four year tenure, working relations between the Fiji Police and the Ministry of Public Security has grown from strength to strength largely due to the Ambassador’s support and guidance.
Brigadier General Qiliho said, “We are at this stage of enjoying one of the strongest bilateral cordial relations between two institutions because we have had the support of His Excellency who has provided guidance and advice throughout”.
“We have learned a lot from our police to police exchange programs and from our visits to China, we have come back filled with knowledge and have been able to implement changes that have assisted our work”.
In his farewell address to the senior Command, Ambassador Qian Bo said, “Time has flown and it’s already been four years since my initial courtesy call, and from the first day I was told that we have a very strong relationship and I have witnessed this.”
“Our strong impression is that the Fijian people are very friendly to China, and during my tenure the China-Fiji relations have been lifted to comprehensive strategic partnership”.
The outgoing Ambassador acknowledged the Fiji Police for the support to his office.
"The Chinese community has a lot of involvement in Fiji's socio-economic sector and I want to thank the Commissioner of Police and all officers serving throughout Fiji for the support rendered to my office, the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese community in Fiji".
