Remain Vigilant: ACP Khan

As the country braces for a weekend of continuous rain, the Fiji Police Force is calling on everyone to remain vigilant.

The Weather Office has issued a Heavy Rain warning for the Fiji Group due to a trough of low pressure and flooding in low lying areas is expected.

Fiji Police Force Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan said people should plan their movements and continue to monitor the weather reports.

“Parents should keep their children indoors and should not allow them to go near flooded areas. We are calling on all parents to monitor their children,” said ACP Khan.

The Head of Police Operations said in the past, Police Officers use to clear out children found swimming in flooded waters or roaming around flooded areas for no reason.

The Fiji Police Force has activated its Command Centers where they are closely monitoring the situation on the ground as rain continues.

“We have teams on standby at all Police Stations who will be deployed when needed to areas affected. If you know where you are staying in an area prone to flooding, now is the best time to move to higher grounds.”

Police Officers have been visiting Flood Prone areas and have been advising members of the Community on the current weather situation.
