Statement

We urge members of the public not to take the the law into their own hands as it could result in the loss of innocent lives.

We urge the public to report matters to police and allow us to conduct an investigation as any attempts or interference could jeopardize or be counterproductive to an investigation that would be conducted.

There have been incidents where citizens arrest have resulted in the successful outcomes of investigations such as the alleged attempted robbery case at the Raj Pharmacy, however excessive force and the damaging of property could result in intervening parties being investigated if a report is lodged against them.

Initial information gathered is that the owner of the vehicle who is now admitted in hospital was in the Kalekana area looking for a friend, however I have directed the Criminal Investigations Department to take over the investigations and look into the claims made regarding the alleged abduction attempts.

And as I reiterated in my earlier statement if there is a crime trend that the public needs to be alerted of, we will issue a public statement.
