Illicit Drugs Awareness in Beqa

A Southern Division Community Policing Team were deployed to Beqa recently following the discovery of marijuana on the island in a bid to create awareness on the impact of the illicit drug trade.

The Southern Division Deputy Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Savenaca Vunisa while speaking at Waisomo Village said the Fiji Police Force is concerned about the discovery of the illicit drugs and the organisation's focus is to address the issue before it gets out of control.

The team made up of officers from various Units also used the opportunity to talk about new and emerging crime trends and concerns over crimes such as cybercrime, sexual offences, crimes against women and children and domestic violence.

The team was also accompanied by the Fiji Police Force Director of Operations (DOPs) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe who called for support in the war on drugs on the island.

SSP Vusonilawe said the cooperation showed by traditional leaders who provided information about the cultivation of marijuana on the island, is a positive start to what would become a positive partnership focused on eradicating all forms of illegal activities on the island.
