The Fiji Police Women’s Network with the support of Medical Services Pacific, New Zealand Police under the Fiji Police Force Support Project has been conducting a series of Empowerment Programs throughout the country with the aim of holistically addressing issues impacting women in the organization.
The program began last week at the Fiji Police Academy for women officers and civilians with a session also held in the Northern Division this past week.
The Fiji Police Women’s Network President and current Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women's Advisory Network, Director Training, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bereta Naisua said women have achieved a great deal to be proud of in the organization over the years and she believed that women were capable of much more.
She added their efforts during the Covid-19 operstoons were commendable and thanked them for their dedication and passion having balanced their professional and personal lives in what was one of the Fiji Police's most challenging periods of policing.
“A commendable effort praised by the Commissioner of Police when he highlighted the contribution of women officers leading operations in the new field of health security".
"Women officers have the support of the hierarchy, and it has led to women achieving many firsts in a male dominated workforce, and that shows that we are capable of anything if we are willing".
The Fiji Police Network was established in November, 2003 and they exist to support Women personnel.
The Women’s Network empowerment program also included speakers from the Fiji Police Psychology Unit, Medical Services Pacific, ANZ Bank, BSP Bank and also from the New Zealand Police.
The program concluded with Talanoa Sessions where they discussed issues affecting women in the workplace.
