Officer's Work Published

A Fijian Police Officer’s research and write-up on the conduct of the Fiji Police Force’s special COVID-19 operations since the country’s first confirmed case in March 2020, was recently recognised and published in the China’s Modern World Police magazine last month.[MWP].

The article was written by Inspector Kavit Kaushal Mani who is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Public Security at the Jiangsu Police Institute in Nanjing, China.

The 32-year-old Inspector who is originally from Vunivau in Labasa was selected in 2019 to pursue further studies at the leading Police learning institution, an outcome of ongoing policing cooperation between the Fiji Police Force and China’s Ministry of Public Security.

Following a trip back home for a break last year, the closure of international borders, left IP Mani no other option but to continue his studies online. He is currently based at the Fiji Police’s Human Resources Department conducting the practical element of his studies awaiting the opening of borders.

IP Mani said all international students studying at Policing Universities in China were given the chance to conduct research and submit an article on how COVID-19 was managed and controlled by their respective Governments with special focus on Policing efforts.

The monthly magazine is published by China’s Ministry of Public Security, and a committee is tasked with selecting the research and article that best captures Policing best practices during the global pandemic.

According to the IP Mani, his article was chosen as it was able to capture all aspects of the Fiji Police’s operations from the technical support elements and the organisation’s ability to adapt and adjust operations according to the needs of the Fijian Government and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

The article also covered the Fiji Police's ability to ensure routine operations were not impacted amid the increasing demands on health security brought on by the pandemic.

IP Mani said he is proud to have been chosen out of the other submissions made by international students.

He adds he is looking forward to returning to the Jiangsu Police Institute to complete his studies.

IP Mani joined the organization in 2013 and had completed the Officer Cadet Program in 2017, was stationed at the Totogo Police Station as an Inspector Administration before being selected for the 5-year study opportunity in China.
